Self-built Houses and Garden Paving: How a Small Brick Making Machine Can Save You Material Costs

Whether building a fence, paving garden paths, or assisting with the construction of a self-built house, material costs can be substantial. Making your own bricks with a small brick making machine can save you considerable costs, potentially even exceeding the initial investment in the machine itself.

Direct Ways to Save Money: Replacing Expensive Pre-made Bricks. Commercially available paving bricks and hollow blocks are expensive, especially for special sizes or styles. Making your own bricks, however, significantly reduces raw material costs. You can use readily available construction waste (broken old bricks, concrete blocks), industrial waste (slag, fly ash), and readily available sand as your main raw materials, requiring only a small amount of cement as "glue." This means the raw material cost per brick can be only a fraction of the price of commercially available bricks. When you use hundreds or thousands of bricks, the total savings will be substantial.

Indirect Ways to Save Money: Reducing Waste and Transportation Costs. Producing bricks yourself allows you to make only what you need, avoiding the waste and excess that comes with buying bulk bags of finished bricks. Furthermore, transporting heavy finished bricks is expensive, while homemade raw materials (such as local sand and waste) can usually be sourced locally, significantly reducing transportation costs and handling intensity.

Let's do the math: How long does it take to break even? A basic small brick-making machine typically costs between several thousand and twenty thousand yuan. Assuming you use waste materials, the total cost per brick (including a small amount of cement and electricity) is about 0.5 yuan, while similar bricks on the market sell for about 1.5 yuan. Therefore, you save about 1 yuan per brick produced. If you produce 3,000 bricks for your project, you can save about 3,000 yuan. This means that after a medium-sized backyard paving or wall-building project, the machine cost is essentially recovered. Every brick produced thereafter is pure profit.

A small brick-making machine is not just a production tool, but also a "money-saving machine." It puts control of material costs back in your hands, making self-built houses and courtyard renovations both economical and fulfilling.
