For the past two weeks all off our lighter appliances (lighting, computers, TV, Hi Fi's, Fax etc) have been running on power generated from my Sanyo Solar Panels and my Exmork turbine only leaving my fridge, stove, dish washer and washing machines connected to the grid.

I re wired two of our DB boards and connected the circuits directly to my 1KW Exmork inverter with a switch over back to Eskom in the event of a failure or not sufficient power being generated. This has not been the case at all, in fact totally the opposite, I have only had an abundance of power. The Emork controller is remarkably soffisticated and shuts the turbine down when sufficient current is being from my Sanyo panels and typically only starts spinning at sunset or on a day like today when its overcast and raining with little sun about.

Amazingly this morning my 2KW Exmork Turbine produced 45 Amps (2.4KW) in fresh North Westerly while my 1.2kw solar array was sleeping in (due to the clouds) and pushing out a mere 24 Watts (now picked up to 309 Watts, not bad for a totally overcast day).

Im am really pleased with this installation, the abundant power generation is going to provide lasting clean power for my family and I and I look forward to growing my storage and invertor to look at tackling my fridges and perhaps start looking into bio gas for our cooking along with adding a 2nd Solar water heater for our cottage in the garden and expanding our rain water harvesting capacity from 20,000 liters to 30,000 liters which would see us lasting well into the summer! This is proving to be a very rewarding project...
